A warmer global climate will probably increase the extent and productivity of forests. Especially in boreal and alpine forests where the growing seasons are short, forest stands may increase. Forests in the temperate zones, especially in Northern Europe and North America, carbon stored in forests appears to be increasing.

  1. In the tropics, the forests to some extent have been converted to pasture land, through agriculture and settlements.
If deforestation continues in the Amazon area, it is likely that evapotranspiration will be reduced, leading to less rainfall.
A drier forest combined with a warmer climate, may lead to severe forest fires in the rain forests in Latin America, Asia and Africa .
