The human population of the world increases by 80 million people every year.
This corresponds to a new Egypt or a new Germany every year.
How do we reduce the growth?
As a general rule, population growth has gone down in countries that have increased the general living standard, educated especially the women, offered basic levels of social security and reduced child mortality.
The year 2011 world population will reach 7 billion people - or seven thousand million - 7 000 000 000 people.
This has never before occurred in human history. The first billion was reached early in the 1800-hundreds. The second billion was reached in 1930. The third billion in 1960. The fourth billion arrived in 1975. Many people who are alive today have experienced that the human populatiion has tripled in their lifetime.
