You must learn to formulate your opinions in a clear language.
And you must be able to justify them.
Arguing at an academic level does not necessarily mean you get upset with each other.
Background for own opinions requires factual knowledge and insight which can be obtained through active participation in relation to lectures and group work, and of course by meeting prepared.
By discussing your understanding with others you train yourself in making factual, accurate and clear arguments.
You exploit the benefit of having peer students. Negotiate meaning with them!
Discuss and argue with them!
Confront your current opinion and understanding with the understanding that your peers have!
Don't even dream of the easy 'right or wrong' answers that you can learn by heart and regurgitate.
As an academic, you have to see the colour shades between black and white.
To succeed as a student you simply need to do a piece of work, allowing yourself to be able to substantiate your opinions based on accepted scientific methods and knowledge.
