Building strategies
We all have strategies for coping. We might not always be conscious of our own strategies.

A good strategy is to be aware of the different strategies and deliberately choose the best option.

  1. We all have some strategy for learning. Many students are not aware of their own strategy.
The strategy itself can be good or bad.

  1. A strategy may be defined as a plan of attack.
This means that when we talk about academic strategy we talk about how to attack the curriculum.

How are you going to attack what you are supposed to learn?

  1. A good learning strategy is a plan that helps you to prepare, implement and evaluate your own learning efforts.

Students with good strategies learn more because they have a more targeted, appropriate and effective learning.
  1. What makes a good student?

    Good strategies for learning

    • Self-activity
    • Work plans
    • Positive attitude
    • Reflecting on own learning
    • Checking own learning
    • Much background knowledge (Read widely!)
    • Motivation - strong desire to learn
    • Setting goals
If you hold some of these qualities, you're probably a pretty good student.

To improve your learning abilities, you should check if there are any of these points above that you can improve.

The three main characteristics of a good strategy are:
    • Set goals
    • Create work plans and
    • Control own learning - reflect and evaluate.
